We want charter schools in Utah to succeed and are proud to be implementing a program to assist and strengthen charter schools throughout the state that may be in need of training and mentoring assistance. Charter School University Online Helpdesk This new feature, found on our website at www.utahcharters.org , will allow you to contact our mentoring teams with any questions or concerns you may have regarding your school. Through this feature, questions can be asked and answered quickly and effec- tively by a charter school expert. Aspiring Charter Executive Seminars (ACES) This training aims to develop leader- ship capacity for those who wish to move into leadership positions within the charter school community or governing board members who would like to increase their leadership skills. This training course ensures there is a strong leadership pipeline in place in both areas. Participants of the ACES training program will participate in an eight-month course with project- based homework covering a variety of leadership topics. Regional Quarterly Trainings Based on feedback from charter schools throughout the state, we will be holding quarterly trainings for members of your board and ad- ministrators and will cover a variety of topics that boards and administra- tors feel are critical to your school’s success. Our first quarterly training will focus on school leadership and director evaluations. This two-hour training will be well worth your board member’s time and each person in attendance will leave with hands-on tools that they can personalize and implement at their schools. Breakout training sessions will also be available specifically for new board members. New Administrator Seminars (NAS) Anyone who’s been a first time principal/administrator at a charter school understands and can appreci- ate the unique challenges that this position brings. UAPCS is commit- ted to providing top-notch profes- sional development for new principals through our New Administrator Seminars (NAS). These seminars are similar to the ACES training, but with additional emphasis on required state reporting, hiring and retaining quality staff, school budgeting, enrollment, and everything else that charter school principal’s may need as they begin their adventure into charter school administration. Intensive Training UAPCS is contracting with four (4) certified trainers who will provide intensive training to schools/charter school individuals that need sig- nificant training that is outside of the parameters of the mentoring teams. Each certified trainer will have a specific area of expertise: • Certified Trainer 1: Expertise in board governance, director and board relationships and account- ability, strategic planning, school accountability and other board and administrative leadership situations. • Certified Trainer 2: Expertise in school operations, grant writing, charter school rules and regula- tions, charter fidelity and general school management. • Certified Trainer 3: Expertise in academic programmanagement, collection and use of student achievement data, teacher obser- vation and evaluations, parental involvement and relations and school scheduling. • Certified Trainer 4: Expertise in charter school finance, state and federal programs, audit practices and standards, segregation of duties and other charter school financial management topics. Our certified trainers will possess the skills and expertise necessary to ensure that Utah charter schools will receive the best possible training and assistance available. UAPCS certified trainers will also conduct quarterly trainings that will be open to all charter school board members and administrators and school staff. We are thrilled to have so many knowl- edgeable charter school experts in our state and are excited to give them the avenue and opportunity to share their knowledge with you and your schools. In addition to utilizing certified trainers, this mentoring grant will allow UAPCS the opportunity to bring in outside professional devel- opment experts, from a variety of universities and companies, to assist with our leadership seminars, board trainings and other professional development events.
