9 Brent Petersen, Dean of Students, Good Foundations Academy “As a young LEA still navigating the charter world, the training provided by the UAPCS has been invaluable to us. The Director Evaluation training gave us the insight and tools we needed to refine our evaluation process and support our Director the best way we can.” RichardWolfgramm, Board Chair, Mana Academy “As a newly approved charter school, we have found the assistance, training and mentoring provided by UAPCS to be a key component in our successful preparations for opening our school. As we talk with our colleagues opening Waldorf Charters in other states, we increasingly recognize what a rare and valu- able resource we have in UAPCS. We have contacts to go to as we have various ques- tions and needs arise. We are getting training and guidance to ensure that we are on track to open our school. This has included infor- mation on hiring, budgets, regulatory compliance, facility plans, and more. UAPCS has also helped to connect us with mentors at other charter schools that have been great resources on specific questions. For example, I was able to connect with Chris Helvey a fewmonths ago for an hour-long discussion of how to set up our financial management. He had suggestions about software that has worked well for his school, qualifications to seek in a business administrator, and specific considerations and contacts for arranging benefits for employees. An hour with Chris answered a plethora of questions, and gave me a contact that I felt I could reach out to in the future as other issues arise. I cannot imagine doing this work without all of the resources, mentors, and assistance that we are able to access through UAPCS.” Emily Merchant, Executive Director, Wasatch Waldorf Charter School Conclusion In addition to our scheduled train- ings, we also provide custom board trainings as well as peer mentoring for board members, administrators and business managers, which several charter schools have already taken advantage of, including 7 additional schools in March alone. Our mentors provide one-on-one, personalized support, tailored to your school’s unique challenges and needs. To take advantage of either of these programs, at no cost to you or your school, please contact our program coordinator, Joylin Lincoln at joylin@ utahcharters.org. For more information about our training and mentoring program, please visit our website at www.utahcharters.org. UAPCS has provided me with the tools I need to be a successful charter school director. From school finance to crucial conversations and beyond... I know I have an ally in UAPCS who will be with me through my years in charter schools. – Brent Petersen, Dean of Students, Good Foundations Academy A special thank you to Utah teachers .
