That’s nearly $120 million in new spending, as well as an additional $64 million for new growth. The legislature also continued to demonstrate their on-going commitment to equitable funding for charter schools, as the value of the LRF increased 9 percent, from $2,001 to $2,180 per student. • Our business partners in education provide real, measurable value to our students. That why we funded things like $500,000 ongoing to Microsoft’s IT Academy, which results in great paying jobs for kids right out of high school. • Science outreach programs through the STEMCenter and our iSEE partners got additional funding. While they are seemingly small amounts of several million or even several hundred thousand, when applied statewide it has a real impact. I’ve been told by those who know that it was a year of unprecedented collaboration and cooperation. Maybe that’s why everyone seemed completely exhausted by the end of it. I give full credit to our committee members and all our education partners who put aside a long history of wariness, and often open hostility to get things done. I look forward to partnering again with those dedicated to public education to make a difference in the future of Utah by investing in our children.
