2 WELCOME Message BY ROYCE VAN TASSELL, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF UAPCS T wenty years ago, I was fresh out of grad school at Utah State. I lived in Sacramento, CA and worked as an education policy fellow (a grand title for a naïve young man), with a specific emphasis in educational choice, at the Pacific Research Institute. My youngest daughter was less than a year old. Her “older” siblings were all under the age of 5. President Clinton was fighting off impeachment charges. Today my wife and I live in Eagle Mountain, and I’m UAPCS’ executive director (hopefully a more modest title for a more experienced version of that naïve young man). My youngest daughter is a full time paraprofessional at a charter school and a full-time student at UVU. Her oldest brother runs hurdles for UVU. And all of them have given me great reason to be a proud Dad. President Trump is worried about Celebrating 20 years of Utah Charter Schools
